81. As all you know, my name is Mary Smith.

     As you all know, my name is Mary Smith.

      여러분 모두가 알고 있듯이 내 이름은 Mary Smith입니다.

▶All of is placed immediately before a pronoun, but all is placed immediately after.

  all of + 대명사 // 대명사 + all 의 형태로 사용된다.

 

82. It's not allowed to talk in the library.

     You aren't allowed to talk in the library.

     Talking in the library isn't allowed.

      도서관에서 이야기하지 마시오.

▶It is not usually used as a preparatory subject before (not) allowed, especially in spoken English.

   구어체에서 allow동사는 수동태로 쓰일때 가주어(it)로 활용하지 않느다.

※all sb to do sth 구문으로 쓰임.

 

83. My job takes me almost to every part of the world.

     My job takes me to almost every part of the world.

      나는 내 직업때문에 세계의 거의 모든 분야를 다룬다.

▶Almost comes immediately before the word it modifies.

   수식하는 단어 바로 앞에 쓰인다.

 

 84. Outside Japan, almost nobody speaks Japanese.

       Outside Japan, hardly anbody speaks Japanese.

        일본외에 일본어를 말하는 사람은 거의 없다.

▶Instead of saying almost no/nobody/never ete, it is more usual to say hardly any/anybody/ever ect.

 

85. She almost couldn't breathe.

     She could hardly breathe.

      그녀는 거의 숨쉴 수 없었다.

▶Almost is used with a negative verb when something does actully happen although, at the time, there is a strong possibility that it will not happen.

   일어나지 않을 가능성이 있음에도 불고하고 실제로 발생할때 부정동사와 사용된다.

   'I was feeling so tired that I almost didn't come.' 너무 피곤해서 오지 못할뻔 했어. 

   Hardly = 'only a little' or 'only with great difficulty'  거의, 좀처럼~없다.

   'We hardly know each other.' 우리는 서로에 대해 거의 잘 모른다.
